News from Grand Targhee
posted: January 12, 2012
Alta, WY – Jan. 6, 2012) — Grand Targhee Resort, located in Teton Valley Wyoming on the back-side of Jackson Hole, has been blessed with over eleven and a half feet of snowfall to date. This 142” of early-season snowfall has given it a 47” powder and packed powder base with more snow in the forecast. Given that la nina and this winter have not been as generous with some other regions, Targhee is offering a “ski free” program to skiers who have bought season passes to any U.S. or Canadian Ski resort for this 2012 season. The offer is good for any skier who books three nights lodging through Grand Targhee’s website or central reservations.
“We respect how precious skiing and riding is to the die-hard winter enthusiasts who commit to season pass purchases,” said Ken Rider, director of marketing & sales for Grand Targhee Resort. “Weather is fickle and we realize that every resort is but one big dump away from the record conditions we all enjoyed last season. For now, we have gotten loads of snow and we thought we would reach out and use this early season to introduce skiers who love powder to the 2,602 acres available at the ‘Ghee. All three mountains, Fred’s, Peaked and Mary’s are open with 100% of our terrain. We think it’s a good time to plan a ‘break away’ to Grand Targhee for a long weekend or full week of skiing.”
The offer is good for any season passholder from any U.S. or Canadian resort that holds a valid 2012 season pass. The offer is good for free skiing for one day for each night the skier books in Grand Targhee’s properties. Some 150 properties are available for booking and guests utilizing this offer must stay a minimum of three nights. Offer is good while lodging availability lasts. Lodging rates range from $98 per night to $599 per night. Currently, adult daily lift tickets are $69.
“We are all skiers and riders,” Rider said. “Obviously we want every resort in the world to be blessed with ample snow. As long as Targhee is blessed this year, we want to share it with everyone who can make it up here. The conditions are incredible and offer a variety for all level of skiers—from powder to nice long groomers.”
Grand Targhee is accessible by direct flights into both Idaho Falls, ID (one hour drive) and Jackson Hole, WY (45 minute drive.) From Salt Lake City, the drive is under 5 hours and from Denver, less than 9 hours.
To book your reservation or for more information simply call toll-free 1-800-TARGHEE (827-4433) or visit us online at www.GrandTarghee.com
Please mention that you are a current and valid season passholder at any US or Canadian Ski Resort at the time of booking. Upon arrival at Grand Targhee, each season passholder included in reservation will be required to show their valid 2011/12 season pass at check-in to receive complimentary ski tickets (one lift ticket, per passholder for each night of lodging). The offer is not valid with any other offers or promotions, and is based on availability and may be discontinued at any time. Valid for new reservations only.

Dear Fans, Athletes, Sponsors, Friends and Supporters of Tough Guy Productions,
Another great ski season is on for the TGP crew!
Due to the lack of snow around the Lake Tahoe area, I’ve headed back to my homeland of Canada for an all winter tour. My new wife and TGP partner, Allie, is staying behind to coordinate the Telemark Big Air Invitational, as a specialist for the inaugural Winter Teva Mountain Games, in Vail, Colorado, February 9-12, 2012. TGP has selected and invited 10 of the worlds best “Tele Jibbers” for the competition. The Telemark Big Air is one of the main spectator events for the games, under the lights, side by side with the “Bike Best Trick” comp. This event will bring great exposure for the sport of Telemark skiing, please spread the word! Registration is now open at http://www.regonline.com/Register/Checkin.aspx?EventID=1032465
As for the Big Mountain Telemark Competitions, there will be two events. Grand Targhee Resort and Crested Butte Mountain Resort will each host a comp with the same format as last year with a day of qualifier, a final and super final round, along with awards and after parties. Please note that due to the lack of corporate partnerships, there will be no California or Alaska event this year, nor a comprehensive points series as in the past.
For your entertainment this season, stay tuned to the TGP Facebook fan page and check out www.toughguyproductions.com for photos, trip reports, and web episode to see your favorite TGP athletes in action exploring Canada’s wonderland… Also, new this year, TGP is proud to produce the FREERIDE/FLOW/FESTIVAL, a unique three-day celebration of Backcountry & Freeride Clinics, Live Music DJ’s and Yoga at Kirkwood Mountain Resort, March 16-18, 2012. Please visit www.freerideflowfest.com for event details.
In this note, I want to wish all Teleskiers out there a Happy New Year and a great 2012 ski season! Please remember to respect the backcountry and make smart decisions while your skiing. Voice your opinion with your ski partners before, during and after your own ski adventure. My mojo is to have fun and ski to Tele another day! If you feel that it’s not completely safe out where you are, turn around and come back another time, the mountain will be waiting for you…
Cheers to the greatest and oldest turns on the hill!
Proud to be a Telemarker for 1/2 my life now!

Thanks to Nate Greenberg for scoping out a perfect spot for the festivities and to Bryan Cole and Mark Sanders for bringin’ the wood and party tunes! We had a great turnout, about 35 snowshredders and camping enthusiasts, even Jeremy Jones showed up to hang with the Tough Guy crew and Lucy Sackbauer made it all the way from Montana.
The event hit an all time high on Saturday night with a six hour dance party in a blizzard but we all stayed warm by the huge bonfire. Smiles all around!

Win a Dream Adventure with
CLIF BAR’s Meet the Moment Program
Moments Collected Also Generate Donations to Protect the Outdoors
EMERYVILLE, Calif., May 16, 2011 – CLIF BAR today introduced Meet the Moment, a celebration of athletic adventures and the places they happen. Whether it’s action, adventure or the thrill of the chase, CLIF BAR wants people to share how they Meet the Moment by uploading inspiring photos and stories at www.MeettheMoment.com.
CLIF BAR will award three people who upload the most inspirational and creative Moments by July 31 an opportunity to pursue their dream adventure. Each winner will select the adventure of their choice (up to a maximum value of $12,000) – be it trekking the Amazon, chasing the Tour de France, riding a wave at J Bay, extreme boarding at Marmot or any other athletic adventure they’ve dreamed about.
To protect the places people play, CLIF BAR also will donate $5 to one of five non-profits dedicated to protecting outdoor places each time someone creates and uploads their first Moment. To further support these conservation and preservation efforts, CLIF BAR will double its contribution to each non-profit if people submit 10,000 Moments by July 31. All told, CLIF BAR, the nation’s #1 energy bar, could contribute up to $125,000 to the five organizations.
The five non-profit beneficiaries that people can select from to direct a $5 CLIF BAR donation on their behalf – Leave No Trace, International Mountain Biking Association, Surfrider Foundation, Access Fund and Winter Wildlands Alliance – were chosen for their focus on protecting the places where people Meet the Moment and their dedication to ensuring that outdoor spaces will be preserved for future generations to experience their own Moments.
Meet the Moment will culminate Oct. 1 with CLIF BAR’s first National Day of Action, an inspirational day of volunteer activities making a positive and lasting impact on the outdoor places and spaces where memorable Moments occur every day.
How to Post a Moment
Anyone is invited to upload a photo and share their Moment at www.MeettheMoment.com. The Moment can be described in “magnetic poetry style” by choosing from a bank of words that will be placed on top of the photo to create an individualized postcard. People can also opt to add their own words to their postcard.
Once the postcard is complete, it can be posted to a photo gallery on www.MeettheMoment.com. The gallery is designed to serve as a visual community of people sharing athletic adventures and stories.
Once submitted, Moments will be plotted on four different “energy maps” that will track the location of like-minded individuals, the number of Moments dedicated by sport, the number of Moments assigned to each non-profit and the feelings Moments created. People also will be able to scroll over Moments in the Moment Gallery and on the energy maps to learn the story behind each postcard, with the goal of inspiring more Moments of outdoor adventure.

Be inspired to Meet the Moment by watching Team CLIF Bar athletes as they scale the chilly face of Smith Rock, ski the backcountry of Hoodoo, surf the swell at Garrapata Beach, mountain bike in the Santa Cruz redwoods, and more!

Telemark Big Mountain Competition – A Junior’s perspective.
posted: May 2, 2011
Tough Guy Productions received this wonderful note from Kami Abi-Nadar regarding her experience competing in The 2011 Mountain Hardwear Big Mountain Telemark Series. Thanks Kami and we look forward to watching you grow and develop within the Telemark ski industry!
“Why do you do that?” “Isn’t tele-skiing unnecessarily difficult? Why not just stick with alpine?” “Is it worth it?” Many people constantly ask me these questions as a response when I tell them I am a telemark skier and I do Big Mountain Telemark Competitions for fun. I, however can’t answer these questions because I ask the same exact questions to myself every single day, and haven’t found a better answer than “because, it’s fun….most of the time.” Although I do know it’s part of my life, part of me, and I don’t know what I could spend my time doing if not to enjoy life and skiing to their extent. I guess I could go to the mall with my friends and waste all my money on clothes that can’t even be worn hiking up a hill, rock climbing, skiing or some other extreme in my life like a “normal” teenage girl. But what’s the fun and edge in that? Instead I blow my life savings and summer job money on functional gear, on a resort pass, entry fees, tickets and travel costs. But I’m ok with that, it’s me, it’s who I am, who I want to be, and what I love. I believe this is the same for most other telemark skiers and competitors, which is possibly why everyone gets along so well and has such a good time at the competitions. Or maybe it’s because they’re all Earth loving, knee droppin’ tree fairies with broken bindings. Whatever it is, the connection really shows both when you’re sharing the fear and nerves standing at the top of the venue before your run. And the joy and proud ness at the end of the weekend at the awards ceremony. There are no “outsiders”, we are all one big happy family, willing to adopt and teach anyone new, wanting to compete and just have fun! The juniors are always hanging out together, teams connecting with other teams, competitors skiing together, talking about the latest silly thing that happened, discussing line choice, being supportive and becoming super close friends. The amazing skiers and “adult” competitors who are all kids at heart always appear to be having a great time as well. Always willing to help us out, give skiing tips, share stories of crazy experiences, and add to the entertainment and fun. Competitions are such a great experience in so many different ways. It makes you become apart of something, introduces you to amazing people that may become your best friends, increases your skiing ability, takes you out of your comfort zone, teaches you wisdom that isn’t limited to the ski hill, and just gives you a chance to be yourself, relax, ski your best and have fun. This is why I telemark ski, and I do Big Mountain Telemark Competitions, because it’s fun….most of the time.
